On this page we hope to help all geo-noobs and others to better understand the
GeocachingRanking website. Below we will list questions that are asked from us
at nausea, and we are just tired of asking.
This does not mean that you should not still ask, we get a kick out of reading
peoples comments and questions, and truth be told it is what keeps us going.
I do not apear in the ranking, what do I need to do
to get added?
Send us a message using the contact us
page with your Geocaching handle and your email address and we will add you.
How do I get my password once I have agreed to have
my Geocaching Profile displayed on GeocachingRanking?
We will email you your GeocachingRanking password as soon
as we have added your Geocaching Profile to the system.
My find and hide values are wrong. How do I update my
stats?
At the bottom of the home page is a link where you update
the sites stats (every x hours). You can update your personal stats every 3
hours from the profile management section.
How does the scoring of hinds and finds work?
The rankings are based on hides and finds. For ever cache
you find you get 2 points. For every cache you hide you get 3 points. If you
haven't been active for a month you get penalised 4 points, if you haven't been
active for 2 months you get penalised 8 points... and so on for every month
inactive you loose 4 points off your total. After you have been inactive for 6
months you will drop off the rankings and become AWOL :) That's about it... all
caches are treated equal, since we are unable to distinguish between the
different types. So if you find a multicache or micro cache, each will only
give you 2 points.
My mothly rankings are incorrect. I have found x
caches and it says that I have only found y caches. :(
This is one of the most often asked questions so pay
attention:
Each time the site's stats are updated we store a history record. When we
calculate your monthly rankings we take the first history record for the month
and the last history record for the month and calculate the difference. As you
can already see, if there is only one history record for the month you will 0
finds and hides.
The problem that most people encounter is that they log say 10 caches (their
first finds for the month) and then wait for the update. This means that the
first history record for this month will reflect the the cachers found caches
which include the 10 caches just logged. It will only be on the next update
that the cacher will have valuse in the monthly ranking.
How do you get the new hide and find values?
Its a secret.
